My new Companion is Sister Mckay! She is very different from Sister Chiou and its been exciting to see differences to really understand the type of missionary I want to be! Taking over the area was seriously scary at first. Some anxiety was bubbling up the first night but I am getting the hang of things! We are in a finding phase right now and I cant wait to find the elect.
44,000 people went through the temple open house! What a blessing and miracle.
This week we had the opportunity to have a mission conference with Elder Quentin L. Cook. He talked about what 'Hastening the work' really means. He said this is the most important time in the church since the restoration. He told us about 3 promises that are made in the Doctrine in Covenants about how the Lord will establish His church or in other words how we will know the work is hastening. They are all being fulfilled right now! They are found in D&C 31 and D&C 110. They are
1. Missionary work/gathering of Israel
2. Members keeping covenants/perfecting of Saints.
3. Temple work/families united/sealing keys
How these things are being fulfilled:
In 1830 the first missionary left. It took from 1830 to 2005 for the church to reach its millionth missionary. Now we will have a million missionaries every 20 years.
In 1940 the church had 800,000 members. Today over 15,000,000
50 years ago (when Pres. Monson was called as an apostle) there were 12 temples. Today (including Fort. Laud) there are 143 temples!!!
I have been thinking about what all this means to me and to us as members of the church. We all must take part in hastening the work! There is no time to waste.
Yesterday when we were trying to say a prayer with a lady she wouldn't let us because we were Mormons and she said "well I am Christian". She also informed us that we believe in reincarnation. We told her we didn't and she was shocked to hear that we believe in Jesus Christ, God the Father, and the Holy Ghost. That's not the first time someone has told me some extremely false doctrine about the Mormon church. This means WE MUST TALK TO EVERYONE. People need to understand. We ARE christian.
She then asked us about Joseph Smith, I said "well He is prophet just like Moses and Abraham". That was when she kicked us out of her house. I think people sometimes don't understand that Jesus Christ Himself didn't sit down and write The Bible. Prophets did. Prophets wrote His words. Why cant we do that today? God will not change! He will not stop sending us Prophets to guide us. He loves us Way TOO Much. What a blessing!
Share what you know and share it with everyone! Hasten the work.
Because of Christ we can be healed from all. He overcame death. In Him the law of Moses is fulfilled. Jesus Christ Lives. Let this drive us.
I have learned I can not comprehend what Christ has done. I cannot comprehend the majesty of Heaven. We will never be able too.
Oh yeah...and Elder Cook left us with an apostolic blessing. It was one of the most powerful things I have every experienced. He blessed us that we would know that our services is not just to bless us, but to bless all we want surrounding us in the Celestial Kingdom. He said This is worth it! We were all silent when we left. The spirit in the room was something I cant even explain. He truly is a man of God.
