The common ground we all forgot we walk on. My view on the fight for equality.

Yesterday and today I logged on to Facebook to find my feed consumed with every opinion you could imagine in the 'fight for equality.' Tomorrow or in the near future stauses will go back to being about how spring break 2013 was the time of your life or how your march madness bracket sucks. Facebookers will change their profile pictures back to what they were before and the world will go on...until next time. 

I grew up mormon in liberal California. My teachers were so liberal they couldnt hide it even if they tried. This being the case I have heard it all. You know what Im talking about, either you have said it or have had it said to you. 'Mormons are this and that' on the topic of same sex marriage. 

Its kind of funny to me how we all spend so much time judging other people on things we know nothing about and things we will probably never really understand. We act tolerant by posting things on facebook like:
     "In 1776 T. Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self-    evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." 

True! Obviously its true. But in the mean time have we forgotten about freedom of religion and other unalienable rights? People say 'I can't wait to live in a time when I can choose who I marry.' Well personally I cant wait to live in a time where I can have my own beliefs without feeling attacked on Facebook. 

Whether I against or for same sex marriage doesnt really matter and shouldnt effect my relationship with anyone. It shouldnt change how I treat anyone. 

So this is my belief. I believe that the only person who can understand each one of us is the Lord. The one who suffered everything for us. Because He loves us, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US. Regardless of race, sex, status, and sexual orientation. I believe that we are all free to think what we want, to vote for what we want, worship whom we want, BUT we are all expected to treat others the way we would like to be treated, this is a commandment from a loving and never changing God. I believe we shouldnt judge someone or think ill of someone until we have walked a mile in their shoes, and took the time to truly understand and acknowledge their point of view. I believe that we will face trials and heartache, and we can be healed through Jesus Christ. I believe life is hard and we need each other to make it through. I believe that we are children of God. This is the common ground we all forgot we walk on.
